Advertising Sales Representative

The McDuffie Progress, a weekly newspaper in Thomson, Ga., has an immediate opening in advertising sales. We publish The McDuffie Progress, Dollar Saver, Classic South real estate magazine and many specialty publications throughout the year. We are looking for a salesperson that will call on advertisers in person, build relationships, learn the needs of assigned clients, and devise marketing and advertising solutions to meet the advertisers' needs. This position has tremendous opportunity for growth. Pay is base plus additional compensation based on a percentage of sales revenue. We are looking for someone comfortable dealing with clients in Thomson, the surrounding small towns, Grovetown and Augusta. Training and instruction will be provided, but you must bring the initiative to stay on the go visiting existing clients and searching for new ones. Advertising Director

InsiderAdvantage has an opening for a Georgia-based advertising director to oversee The Southern Political Report, a specialized political/business magazine that covers 13 states and the District of Columbia.

The ideal candidate will have some experience in sales, specifically for print or mass media advertising. The applicant must have excellent customer-service skills.

This person would work with the CEO and COO to develop and implement strategies to increase advertising and meet other company objectives. The main priority is prospecting for new advertisers and then selling ads.

Out-of-state travel is minimal. College degree is preferred, along with several years experience in a sales environment. Strong computer and organizational skills are required.

Digital Journalist

The Ledger-Enquirer, a McClatchy-owned news and information company in Columbus, Ga., has an immediate opening for a digital journalist.

We're looking for someone who can post, package, aggregate and enhance digital content on our website and mobile site, and use social media to drive traffic to these sites.

An ability to build engagement on Facebook is a must, as more than half of the traffic to our website comes from links on our Facebook page. The person in this position should also have experience managing a Twitter account.

The ideal candidate will have a knack for tracking key metrics and the ability to advise newsroom leadership on adjustments needed to our daily oeprations and our overall strategy for buildng our aduience on our website, mobile site and social media.

This person would also help our newsroom staff create content, including videos and other visual storytelling, that increase audience engagement. He or she should have the the ability to write quickly and concisely and for an audience with a short attention span, as well as the willingness to conduct crime and general news reporting as assigned.

The job requires flexibility, creativity, attention to detail, excellent time management, and the willingness to work nights and weekends. We're looking for self-starters who can work effectively alone or push and inspire colleagues as a member of a team.

The ideal candidate will have some experience contributing to the website of a daily newspaper, but we'll consider talented, tech-savvy journalists with a proven track record of building an audience on social media.

Columbus is a grwing city that's a 90-minute drive from downtown Atlanta and a 30-minute drive from Auburn University. It's home to Fort Benning, Aflac, Synovus, the world's longest urban whitewater course (really!), the Scrambled Dog and the Ranger Burger.

We are looking for an experienced editor in Georgia's lake country.

Excellent writing, editing and computer skills are a must. Experience with Microsoft Word, InDesign and Photoshop necessary. Google Docs knowledge a plus.

Our weekly newspaper, Lake Oconee News, covers three counties — Morgan, Putnam and Greene — in rural middle Georgia and collaborates with The Eatonton Messenger in covering Putnam County (www.msgr.com).

Position requires strong organization, planning and management skills, and the ability to write editorial, straight news and features on deadlines. Copy editing and page layout are part of the job, as is the delicate balance in being a cheerleader and a watchdog in the community.

Involves direct supervision of two full-time reporters; coordination with regional sports editor and The EM's managing editor; and reports to the company's senior editor, who oversees both publications.

This position assists the editor and managing editor in planning and producing GEORGIA Magazine's monthly print and digital editions.

Responsibilities:

- Planning, writing and editing content for monthly features and departments; in print and online.
- Identifying and recruiting new writers; making freelance assignments and working with writers to ensure standards and deadlines are met.
- Working closely with graphic designers to facilitate layout and design of articles for publication. Includes coordinating/selecting compelling photography.
- Collaborating with other editors to produce content for the web and digital edition. Involves a combination of content and technical duties related to online publishing and digital delivery systems, including email newsletters and social media.
- Providing backup editing for all magazine content and ancillary projects produced by other editors, as needed.
- Representing GEORGIA Magazine in industry association. State travel required to attend meetings and conferences. Periodic national travel to attend industry conferences and events.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English or related field.

Experience:

Minimum five years of related work experience in areas such as feature writing and editing. Ideal candidate will have digital experience in a publishing context, including experience with web authoring/content management tools. Experience with Photoshop or other photo-editing software a plus.

The Bayonet and Saber, a weekly newspaper for the Fort Benning community near Columbus, Ga., is seeking an experienced photojournalist to join its staff.

In this position in a fast-paced newsroom, you will write and edit stories on a variety of subjects such as sports, features, current events, ceremonies and news. You also will help proof pages, write cutlines and headlines, and perform other duties as needed.

A bachelor's degree in journalism or English, plus one to two years of experience at a daily or weekly newpsaper, is required. Must know AP style, have strong interpersonal communication skills and be able to work within tight deadlines in a military setting.

Digital photography and editing experience and knowledge of newspaper design software, such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, are required.

The hours for this position will vary depending on the assignment, but most work will be done Monday through Friday.

A current driver's license and reliable transportation are required. Because Fort Benning is a training post, reporting may involve aerial photography, travel over rough terrain and exposure to loud noises. You may be expected, on special assignments, to wear protective gear that can weigh up to 40 pounds.

Attention to detail and exceptional grammar are required. You will be tested on AP style, copy editing and writing.

We are a 112-year-old family owned six-day-a-week newspaper with circulation of 15,000 and a growing commercial base. We run on a Goss Community two-folder 18-unit press. Experience on a Goss Community or insert machines is a plus.

Job details: Ensures that production goals are met. Troubleshoots problems to maintain quality standards and to keep press in top running condition — performs mainentance as required. Cleans, lubricates, changes blankets and rollers, and maintains press to ensure optimum operation. Examines product frequently to ensure that it meets quality specifications. Provides training for new team members. Adheres to and promotes all safety policies and procedures.

Required skills:

* Five-plus years of experience in the operation of an offset printing press

* Must be able to work in a team environment

About the classifieds

The GPA Classifieds are a service of the Georgia Press Association. There is no charge for ads if the position is being filled for a newspaper or company that is itself an individual member of GPA.

For all others (including affiliates, subsidiaries and sister publications of GPA members), the cost is $20 per ad. Advertisements are left in the GPA Classifieds for three months from the "Posted" date unless we are otherwise notified.
